Director, Individual Giving, Major Gifts & Special Projects

About the Company

The Development Department at The New York Public Library raises funds from private sources to support the mission and vision of the Library. The team is a dynamic group of professionals representing expertise in individual, corporate, foundation, and government grants, special events, membership, and planned giving.

Responsibilities

• Execute short and long-term plans for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a pipeline of prospects and major donors
• Oversee and grow the Major Gifts & Special Projects area, targeting gifts of $100,000 and above with a $5 million annual goal
• Implement a strategic moves management program to upgrade support from current donors
• Develop and implement outreach plans for new prospective donors interested in priority areas
• Serve as a gift officer managing a personal portfolio of high-level donors
• Prepare and execute asks, proposals, and reports for targeted major gift priorities
• Manage and mentor the Major Gifts Officer and Manager for Individual Giving, Major Gifts & Special Projects
• Cultivate donor relationships between NYPL Senior Leaders and respective prospects

Requirements

• Proven experience as a development professional with a track record of increasing revenue from individuals
• Experience managing and mentoring fundraising staff
• Ability to work across departments with curators and program heads to identify funding opportunities
• Proficiency in understanding department operations relating to Raiser’s Edge database and gift processing
