Director, Human Factors Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead the global Human Factors Engineering (HFE) function, including strategy, governance, and capability building across user research, usability, and UX design.
• Serve as a core voice in product and engineering decision forums to shape system-level design and usability tradeoffs.
• Define and drive the long-range HFE strategy, operating model, and capability roadmap aligned with R&D and business priorities.
• Build organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, and the development of functional leaders and technical experts.
• Oversee the generation, review, and approval of HFE, UI, UX, and usability engineering deliverables in compliance with FDA, ISO, and IEC standards.
• Partner with global R&D teams to ensure HFE is integrated into program execution and day-to-day decision-making.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Human Factors Engineering, Engineering, UI/UX, or a related discipline.
• 12+ years of experience leading Human Factors, UX, or product development in medical devices or other regulated products.
• 10+ years of progressive people leadership experience, including managing managers and building global teams.
• Deep knowledge of IEC 60601-1-6 and IEC 62366.
• Proven experience with FDA Human Factors and Usability Guidance.
• Demonstrated experience working with regulatory and certification agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in home patient care and connected care experiences.
• Expertise in integrating Human-AI interaction considerations into therapy journey design.
• Ability to synthesize complex inputs from Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, and Engineering departments.
