Director, Hardware Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of Electrical, Mechanical, and Systems Engineers
• Own the technical definition and architectural roadmap for next-generation hardware systems
• Drive New Product Development (NPD) from concept through validation (DVT) to manufacturing
• Establish and own KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, and COGS reduction
• Manage the end-to-end Engineering Change Control process (ECOs/ECRs)
• Create feedback loops between Field Operations and NPD teams to improve reliability
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and industry standards
• Manage departmental budget and resource allocation

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of engineering experience in high-complexity hardware (Robotics, Aerospace, Automotive, or Industrial Automation)
• 5+ years of direct people management experience, including managing other managers
• Deep expertise in NPI, Engineering Change Management, and configuration control
• Experience implementing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and CAPA
• Ability to translate complex technical data into executive summaries
• Proven track record in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or CRE credentials
• Mastery of PLM software (e.g., Duro, Arena, Propel, Windchill)
• Experience with Digital Twin concepts or cloud-based data (GCP/AWS/Palantir Foundry)
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CANOpen)
