Director, Federal Advocacy - Communications

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications planning and execution for the federal advocacy team to advance legislative and regulatory priorities.
• Draft and edit high-quality advocacy content, including talking points, newsletters, briefing materials, and digital content.
• Utilize public opinion research, such as polling and focus groups, to inform effective messaging and narratives for policymakers.
• Represent ACS CAN before members of Congress, Congressional staff, and Executive Branch personnel to advance policy goals.
• Translate complex policy issues into compelling, persuasive messages for diverse audiences across media, digital, and field functions.
• Support volunteer engagement, donor relations, and organizational events as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public policy, journalism, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of professional experience, including extensive work in communications and federal advocacy.
• Proven success in developing strategic communications that support policy change or issue advocacy.
• Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, Quorum, or Mailchimp.
• Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Direct experience working on Capitol Hill or within a federal Administration.
• Experience utilizing data literacy and analytics to inform advocacy strategy.
