About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic communications planning and execution for the federal advocacy team to advance legislative and regulatory priorities.
- Draft and edit high-quality advocacy content, including talking points, newsletters, briefing materials, and digital content.
- Utilize public opinion research, such as polling and focus groups, to inform effective messaging and narratives for policymakers.
- Represent ACS CAN before members of Congress, Congressional staff, and Executive Branch personnel to advance policy goals.
- Translate complex policy issues into compelling, persuasive messages for diverse audiences across media, digital, and field functions.
- Support volunteer engagement, donor relations, and organizational events as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public policy, journalism, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of professional experience, including extensive work in communications and federal advocacy.
- Proven success in developing strategic communications that support policy change or issue advocacy.
- Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, Quorum, or Mailchimp.
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Direct experience working on Capitol Hill or within a federal Administration.
- Experience utilizing data literacy and analytics to inform advocacy strategy.
