Director, Engineering - Motors

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of motor engineers, fostering technical growth and a collaborative culture
• Drive motor technology strategy and roadmaps for BLDC, universal, and switched reluctance motors
• Provide technical oversight for end-to-end motor development from concept to production
• Partner with global motor suppliers to co-develop optimized solutions and ensure production readiness
• Define motor performance targets including torque, speed, noise, vibration, and efficiency
• Guide advanced electromagnetic and electromechanical analysis using FEA and simulation
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, controls, and firmware teams for optimal integration
• Oversee motor material selection and ensure design for manufacturability (DFM)

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in motor design and development
• Proven experience in technical leadership or people management roles
• Expert understanding of electromagnetic theory and motor physics
• Hands-on experience with FEA tools such as Maxwell, JMAG, or Motor-CAD
• Strong background in electrical machine design and motor control principles
• Extensive experience managing partnerships with global motor suppliers, particularly in Asia
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. with emphasis in electromagnetics or motor systems
• Experience with airflow and fluid-dynamics
• Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes like stamping, winding, and potting
