Director, Electrical Engineering

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end electrical architecture from 480V grid tie-in to 12V/24V DC sensor networks
• Oversee design of AC/DC rectification, DC/DC converters, VFDs, and SCR controllers
• Act as technical bridge between Hardware, Controls, and Software teams
• Define firmware requirements and communication protocols like Modbus, CAN, and Profinet
• Lead design of electrical systems for hazardous environments (Class I, Div 1/2 or ATEX)
• Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of power electronics and controls engineers
• Manage external suppliers and contract manufacturers for critical power components
• Manage hardware development lifecycles from prototyping through commercial-scale deployment

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 12+ years of engineering experience in power electronics, industrial automation, or renewable energy
• 5+ years of direct engineering management experience leading cross-functional teams
• Expertise in 480V (3-phase) AC power distribution and AC/DC rectification
• Familiarity with PLC/PAC architectures and industrial fieldbus networks
• Deep knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), UL 508A, and high-voltage safety protocols

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Power Electronics, Power Systems, or Control Systems
• Industry experience in hydrogen infrastructure, electrochemistry, oil & gas, or energy storage
• Experience designing systems for hazardous locations
• Background in thermal management for high-power electronics
• Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up in high-growth technology environments
