Director, Data Governance & Observability

Responsibilities

• Define and enforce data contracts across platform services and data products
• Establish standards for data lineage, metadata, and semantic consistency
• Own definitions for data quality including freshness, completeness, and correctness
• Define data-level SLIs and SLOs in partnership with SRE
• Build and maintain platform-facing health and operational dashboards
• Write production code to implement governance and observability mechanisms
• Contribute to shared platform libraries, services, and tooling
• Partner with Platform Development, Data Products, and SRE teams
• Hire and mentor data platform engineers as the team scales

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building production data or platform systems
• Deep understanding of data governance concepts like contracts, lineage, and metadata
• Experience enforcing standards through code and automation
• Solid software engineering foundation in API and schema design
• Knowledge of modular or service-oriented architectures
• Proficiency with automated testing and CI/CD practices
• Familiarity with observability concepts and SRE workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in large-scale enterprise or media environments
• Familiarity with lakehouse architectures and ELT pipelines
• Exposure to analytics or BI tooling such as Tableau or Power BI
• Experience modernizing legacy data systems in cloud-native environments
