Director, Data Engineering

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for the enterprise data platform.
• Oversee the design, development, and delivery of data pipelines and large-scale data solutions.
• Establish architectural standards and governance frameworks, including data lake/warehouse strategy and data modeling.
• Lead technical decision-making, review engineering designs, and remove technical blockers.
• Manage the department budget, including personnel, contractors, and cloud spending.
• Drive cloud cost-optimization efforts and partner with business leaders to define ROI.
• Hire, mentor, and develop data engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, ML, and executive leadership to translate business objectives into technical solutions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, cloud-based data infrastructure, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience building and operating reliable, large-scale data pipelines that support analytics and AI/ML workloads.
• Expertise in cloud data platforms and technologies such as AWS/Azure/GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, or Spark.
• Strong engineering leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare or education.
• Background in cloud cost optimization and platform modernization.
• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
