About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic communications for Avangrid’s New York utilities, including NYSEG and RG&E
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies for issues management, customers, and employees
- Provide strategic counsel to operating company leadership regarding reputation management and proactive planning
- Manage and develop a team of three communications professionals, providing coaching and performance feedback
- Oversee media relations, crisis communications, executive communications, and social media programs
- Serve as an authorized spokesperson and Public Information Officer (PIO) during emergencies and major events
- Partner with Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs, and Legal teams to align messaging with business objectives
- Manage relationships with external agencies, vendors, and community partners
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Proven expertise in communications strategy and media relations
- Extensive experience in crisis and issues management
- Strong managerial experience with a track record of leading teams
- Superior writing, editing, and project management skills
- Ability to influence senior leaders and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a spokesperson for live and taped media interviews
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a related field of study
- Knowledge of the electric and gas utility industry
