About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the campus Capital Planning and Development function, including long-term planning, design, construction, and renovation of campus facilities and infrastructure.
  • Formulate and maintain a campus Capital Priorities Strategy aligned with the University's Strategic Plan and Campus Master Plan.
  • Oversee project development processes, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and meet quality and sustainability standards.
  • Manage facilities and space planning services, including maintaining campus space inventory and administering space use policies.
  • Direct Project Services, overseeing renovation and major facility renewal projects through professional project management.
  • Build and lead a motivated team, providing leadership to Associate Directors and administrative support staff.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including executive leadership, academic departments, and external partners like UBC Properties Trust and municipal officials.

Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering, Architecture, Community Planning, Urban Planning, or Business.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in capital development, project management, or facilities planning.
  • Eligibility for professional registration as an Engineer (Engineers & Geoscientists BC) or Architect (Architectural Institute of British Columbia).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of capital planning, budgeting, and development processes within an institutional setting.
  • Proven experience presenting complex information and proposals to Board and Executive-level leadership.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and manage diverse stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Advanced knowledge of contract administration, construction management, and facility life-cycle costs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk and uncertainty in large-scale capital projects.
