Director, Applied Sensing

Responsibilities

• Lead the growth, strategic direction, and business operations of Applied Sensing research programs within UDRI
• Secure and expand major research programs and cultivate enduring sponsor relationships
• Oversee a diverse portfolio of technical initiatives, ensuring compliance and timely delivery
• Manage overall office operations, including profit/loss, budget creation, and analysis
• Lead and mentor a diverse team of professional employees, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion
• Develop roadmap strategies to maintain competitiveness in the autonomous systems area
• Engage with sponsors and clients to assess needs and oversee major research proposals

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant field
• 10+ years of related professional experience
• 5+ years of leadership experience
• Supervisory experience managing diverse teams of at least 15 professional employees
• Experience managing the operations of engineering or testing facilities
• Proven track record in profit/loss management and budget analysis
• Proven success in generating $3-5 million in sponsored program revenues annually
• U.S. citizenship is required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

• Advanced technical degree in a relevant field
• 15+ years of related professional experience
• 10+ years of leadership experience
• Supervisory experience managing 30+ professional employees
• Proven success overseeing $5-10 million in annual sponsored program revenues
• Experience with strategic planning and implementing organizational objectives
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop leadership within the center
