About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the care, development, and guidance of dependent, neglected, and traumatized children
  • Create a welcoming, trauma-informed environment for children entering and exiting the center
  • Conduct individual and group orientations for youth
  • Supervise youth at congregate care facilities and during sponsored visits
  • Chaperone and transport youth to appointments, school, and court appearances
  • Assist in planning group and individual activities
  • Monitor and supervise children in assigned areas
  • Intervene in crisis situations using appropriate de-escalation techniques
  • Conduct room inspections and personal searches to maintain a safe environment
  • Utilize approved physical restraint techniques when necessary for safety
  • Complete required log entries, incident reports, and relevant documentation
  • Assist children with educational, recreational, and personal hygiene needs

Requirements

  • High school diploma and two years of experience in a congregate residential institution or non-secure detention facility; OR
  • Associate degree or 60 semester credits including 12 credits in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, criminal justice, education, nursing, or cultural anthropology; OR
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above
