About the role

Responsibilities

  • Work with editors, art directors, video, and photo teams to conceptualize and shape immersive digital storytelling experiences
  • Respond to projects with strategic design solutions through interactive storytelling and wireframes
  • Iterate and present multiple format options and explorations for stakeholder review
  • Develop template designs for recurring editorial features
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure responsive and performant design quality across all digital devices and browsers
  • Translate art and design into a versatile suite of assets for various promotion platforms
  • Incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders through iterative processes
  • Develop and collaborate with a roster of artists, including illustrators and motion designers

Requirements

  • 5+ years of digital design experience
  • Strong visual and interactive design skills, including typography, layout, color, motion, and behavior
  • Experience with iterative wireframing in Figma
  • Proven ability to implement pixel-perfect digital design systems across multiple platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to translate editorial priorities into multimedia storytelling
  • Experience with basic HTML/CSS and JavaScript
  • Experience working with video, audio, and data visualization
  • Experience working in a fast-paced news environment with a flexible, news-driven schedule
