Diesel Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild, and maintain construction equipment including trucks, cranes, scrapers, and bulldozers
• Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
• Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions
• Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency
• Weld broken parts and structural members

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Preferred Qualifications

• Postsecondary training in diesel mechanics or a related field
