Diesel Bus Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics, major repairs, and proactive maintenance on heavy-duty fleet vehicles
• Inspect vehicle systems including suspensions, steering, exhausts, and overall operational safety
• Repair vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and associated components
• Review driver defect reports daily and troubleshoot issues to minimize road calls
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, labor hours, and parts inventory
• Conduct field visits for emergency breakdowns and coordinate towing or repairs
• Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to implement solutions
• Test drive repaired vehicles to ensure performance and safety standards are met

Requirements

• 21+ years of age
• 3+ years of vehicle maintenance experience (transit buses or motor coaches preferred)
• Hands-on experience with heavy-duty electrical systems, air brakes, and suspension systems
• Proficiency using diesel diagnostic tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, QuickServe, AllData, WABCO, Bendix)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one
• Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test
• Fluency in English and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE Certifications (Medium/Heavy Truck or School/Transit Bus)
• Powertrain Certification
• EPA 609 HVAC Certification
• CDL (Class A or B) with Passenger endorsement
