About the role
Responsibilities
- Inspect vehicle systems including suspensions, steering, and exhausts to ensure operational safety and high maintenance standards
- Repair vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated components
- Address immediate fleet concerns and maintain accurate maintenance records by reviewing driver defect reports and PMs
- Track daily vehicle reports, labor hours, and repair records to ensure all files are current
- Conduct field visits for emergencies or breakdowns to arrange for repairs or towing
- Support the IT team in managing on-board technology such as Wi-Fi, telematics, and vehicle tablets
- Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to provide solutions
- Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance and assign work orders to junior technicians as needed
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- 3+ years of vehicle maintenance experience (transit buses or motor coaches preferred)
- Hands-on experience with heavy-duty electrical systems, air brakes, and suspension systems
- Proficiency using diesel diagnostic tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, QuickServe, AllData, WABCO, Bendix)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one
- Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test
- Fluency in English and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certifications (Medium/Heavy Truck or School/Transit Bus)
- Powertrain Certification
- EPA 609 HVAC Certification
- CDL (Class A or B) with Passenger endorsement (training available for qualified candidates)
