Design Systems Lead

Responsibilities

• Bootstrap and own an intuitive semantic token system across multiple platforms and frameworks
• Own the design system repository on GitHub, including versioning, release management, and changelogs
• Set and uphold high standards for visual design quality and technical standards
• Define and manage the contribution model and governance for inbound contributions
• Bridge Figma and code to ensure design and engineering remain in sync
• Create first-class documentation and drive adoption through onboarding and support
• Integrate accessibility (WCAG) and theming (dark mode) as core defaults
• Maintain a system roadmap balancing new work, migrations, and deprecations
• Incorporate AI tooling into the design systems workflow

Requirements

• Extensive experience owning design systems at large organizations
• 50/50 design-engineer profile with credibility in both visual craft and code
• Impeccable eye for visual design
• Deep understanding of mobile, web, and React UI best practices
• Fluency in Figma and high proficiency in GitHub
• Experience designing semantic design tokens and scalable component APIs
• Proven track record of driving adoption through documentation and partnership
• Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
• Comfort working with AI tooling and in ambiguous environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building a semantic token system from scratch across multiple platforms
• Experience scaling design systems during periods of rapid organizational growth
• Experience defining governance for multi-team design systems
• Familiarity with Storybook or similar component tooling and documentation platforms
• Experience mentoring designers and engineers
