Design Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the overall design programme, scope deliverables, and report progress accurately.
• Ensure delivery of scope on time, on budget, and in compliance with quality and safety-by-design principles (CDM 2015).
• Manage technical change across projects, acting as a custodian of change through registers and contract requirements.
• Coordinate tenders, estimates, and technical responses.
• Drive innovation and value engineering to improve sustainability and reduce site-based construction activity.
• Manage Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Liaise with the Principal Designer to ensure communication regarding permanent and temporary works.
• Support the technical design team in the preparation and review of management processes and procedures.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in a related design management role.
• Relevant degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a similar discipline.
• Proven capability in delivering complex design projects.
• Strong leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
• Extensive stakeholder management experience.
• Strong technical grounding and engineering delivery experience.
• Knowledge of ISO19650 / BIM.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and Principal Designer requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with energy transmission or distribution specifications.
• Experience working within the UK Energy sector or other highly regulated industries.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Knowledge of National Grid design management and approval processes.
