Design Manager

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical and design processes, design teams, and subcontractors throughout detail design, procurement, and construction
• Review consultant detailed design drawings and subcontractor designs
• Ensure designs comply with company standards and budgetary constraints
• Manage subcontractor and supplier design approvals and maintain updated schedules
• Manage change control processes for variations in drawing revisions, construction programmes, and costs
• Liaise with Planning Authorities and Building Control to obtain necessary approvals
• Manage information flow through document management systems and workflows
• Undertake site visits and attend project meetings
• Act as the principal design and technical contact during construction works
• Manage, investigate, and respond to RFIs from site teams and subcontractors
• Compile H&S files and O&M manuals

Requirements

• Minimum relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC/NVQ4 etc.)
• Proven track record of design coordination
• Relevant Design and Build experience
• Knowledge of construction methodology and sequencing processes
• Ability to review drawings and identify buildability and technical issues
• Valid driving licence
• Strong project, process, and problem-solving management skills
• Effective communication skills for all levels of management

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit)
• Knowledge and understanding of BIM
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, CIAT, or RICS)
• Experience with Building Safety Act relevant works or retrofit works
• In-depth knowledge of contractual requirements and utility application processes
