About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of 3–4 designers and design technologists, fostering their technical skills and systems thinking.
  • Define and drive the roadmap for Atrium, Flatiron's design system, including component governance and adoption strategies.
  • Act as a player-coach by contributing directly to the design system through code, documentation, and design.
  • Build cross-functional partnerships with engineering and product management to align on front-end standards and scalable UI patterns.
  • Translate complex systems problems into a clear, sequenced backlog for stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 6–9 years of experience in design systems or front-end development.
  • 1–2 years of experience managing or mentoring designers or technologists.
  • Deep fluency in Figma, design tokens, and shared libraries.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.
  • Experience working in health tech, enterprise software, or other complex product environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between design and engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted design and development workflows, such as code generation or design-to-code tooling.
  • Proven track record of shaping a mature design system, including documentation and contribution models.
