Design Engineer

About the Company

Retell AI is using first principles to reimagine the call center with cutting-edge voice AI. Backed by Y Combinator and Alt Capital, we have scaled to $60M ARR and are building a modern CX platform where entire contact centers are powered by intelligent AI workers.

Responsibilities

• Work AI-first using tools like Cursor and Claude Code for component work
• Build and own the Retell design system, including component libraries, Storybook, and design tokens
• Prototype in React and TypeScript to test ideas with real users
• Translate Figma designs into production-grade components with pixel-level accuracy
• Ensure design-code parity across the dashboard, agent config, and CRM views
• Review frontend PRs for visual quality and polish
• Document and share AI-native prompts and workflows with the team

Requirements

• Strong Figma skills including component libraries, variables, and auto layout
• Solid frontend expertise in HTML, CSS, React, and TypeScript
• Experience building and maintaining UI component libraries
• Deep knowledge of design systems, tokens, and visual consistency
• Active use of AI coding tools with clear opinions on their application
• Proven track record of shipping real components to production products

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Storybook
• Motion and interaction design sensibility
• Familiarity with accessibility standards
• Background at a design-forward SaaS company
• Interest in mentoring others on AI-native workflows
