Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Blur the lines between design and production code by narrowing the gap between Figma prototypes and production-ready code.
• Improve design system usability while optimizing responsiveness and motion to ensure every release feels delightful.
• Own "delight" as a deliverable by integrating micro-interactions into the design review process.
• Evolve the design system by collaborating with designers to maintain components, primitives, and tokens across mobile and web.
• Use code as a thinking tool to build working prototypes that resolve product debates and inform feature direction.
• Raise the bar for frontend quality by mentoring engineers and setting patterns and standards for shipped surfaces.
• Influence product roadmaps by bringing unique insights from the intersection of design and engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production frontend for consumer products.
• 2+ years of experience in a Design Engineer-style role where craft and product judgment are prioritized.
• Deep proficiency in React, React Native, TypeScript, and modern CSS.
• Figma fluency, including hands-on experience with shared component libraries and design systems.
• A portfolio of shipped work that demonstrates high attention to detail, animation, and typography.
• Strong product instincts and the ability to turn evolving PRDs into immersive prototypes.
• Ability to work in-person at our NYC office in SoHo, 5 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience shaping or owning a cross-platform design system spanning web and React Native.
• Background in consumer, social, or marketplace products.
• Experience working closely with Senior Product Designers on high-polish consumer products.
• Past experience as a tech lead on a small, product-minded engineering pod.
