Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Drive part design and redesign across semiconductor fabrication applications including wafer handling, thermal management, and UHV chambers
• Rethink part design from first principles using additive manufacturing to enable new geometries and consolidated assemblies
• Develop and evaluate design concepts considering materials, tolerances, and thermal/structural behavior
• Work with internal engineering and operations teams to drive feasibility and execution
• Engage with customer engineering teams to understand requirements and present solutions
• Identify new application spaces for Freeform's technology

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline
• 5+ years of experience in a hands-on engineering role within the semiconductor equipment or fabrication industry
• Strong intuition for part design and design-for-manufacturing
• Systems-level understanding of complex semiconductor fabrication hardware

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing wafer handling systems, vacuum hardware, or thermal management components
• Familiarity with metal manufacturing processes like additive manufacturing, casting, or forging
• Experience carrying hardware through development, qualification, and production ramp
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
• Strong first-principles reasoning and comfort in fast-moving environments
