Deputy Sheriff Cadet

Responsibilities

• Attend and obtain certification through the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) academy
• Participate in formal and informal training programs to learn the principles and techniques of a Deputy Sheriff
• Learn federal, state, and local traffic and criminal laws
• Develop skills in patrol methods, community relations, and courtroom procedures
• Learn to use various firearms and first aid methods safely
• Practice physical fitness programs to maintain job-required agility and strength
• Learn to drive motor vehicles safely under both normal and emergency conditions
• Develop the ability to write clear, comprehensive, and accurate law enforcement reports
• Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding work-related issues and restricted County information

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Minimum of 21 years of age
• United States citizenship
• Valid Arizona State Driver's License
• At least one year of satisfactory work or educational experience
• Ability to pass a polygraph, background investigation, and drug/alcohol screening
• Ability to pass a physical and/or stress test

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to use good judgment and make effective decisions under pressure
• Ability to work alternating schedules, including weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
