About the role
Responsibilities
- Receive and interpret public records requests, coordinating the collection, review, and release of responsive records.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of records retention schedules and Washington State Laws to ensure compliance.
- Review records for responsiveness and identify applicable exemptions under the Public Records Act and other statutes.
- Perform redactions on various media types, including documents, video, and audio.
- Maintain files and manage the appraisal, preservation, and destruction of data in accordance with established retention schedules.
- Communicate with requesters, legal counsel, and county departments regarding records obligations and clarifications.
- Assess and improve technology tools used for tracking, logging, and extracting public records.
- Provide guidance to county staff on records management practices and electronic format gathering.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent in Office Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clerical field or a role specializing in records retention and/or public records.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Washington Public Records Act (RCW 42.56).
- Proven ability to redact documents, video, and audio files.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle potentially disturbing or graphic information.
