Deputy Prosecuting Attorney

Responsibilities

• Research, document, negotiate with defense attorneys, prepare briefs, and prosecute criminal or civil cases.
• Screen and evaluate factual and legal bases for complaints to determine legal sufficiency and prepare charges.
• Provide legal advice and information to County departments, elected officials, and civic groups.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of case files and recordkeeping systems.
• Monitor and recommend changes to policies or procedures based on new laws, regulations, or trends.
• For Senior DPA roles: Plan, organize, and coordinate the prosecution of complex felony and/or civil cases.
• For DPA II roles: Prosecute a broader range of complex cases with greater independence.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) Degree.
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of Washington.
• Valid driver's license.
• For Senior DPA: Five years of experience preparing and prosecuting criminal and/or civil cases.
• For DPA I and II: Zero to five years of experience preparing and prosecuting criminal and/or civil cases.
