Deputy Prosecuting Attorney

Responsibilities

• Prosecute adult and juvenile criminal cases, including major felonies and complex civil matters
• Analyze police investigations, review evidence, and interview witnesses for proceedings
• Represent the State in court by examining witnesses and presenting evidence
• Prepare legal documents, including briefs, oral arguments, and search warrants
• Determine sentencing ranges and discuss possibilities with victims and law enforcement
• Provide legal guidance to lower-level prosecuting staff and assist County departments with policy implementation
• Conduct complex legal research and provide written or oral opinions on legal problems

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
• Membership in the State Bar of Washington or pending results of the Washington Bar examination
• For DPA II: Four or more years of responsible experience as a practicing attorney
• For Senior DPA: Five or more years of highly responsible experience as a practicing attorney
• Ability to pass a criminal history record check and fingerprinting
