About the Company

Founded in 1967, QLS seeks equal access to justice for all low-income residents of Queens through a range of legal advocacy, education, and community partnerships. We are part of a network of local programs that make up Legal Services NYC, the largest free civil legal services provider in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of work for a team consisting of a director, staff attorneys, and paralegals
• Support and supervise advocates in representing clients in homeownership preservation, including intake, case assessment, and negotiating settlements
• Engage in the full range of litigation, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and arguing appeals
• Advocate for broader policy initiatives expanding homeowner rights
• Manage administrative aspects of the unit, including grant management, reporting, and pursuing new funding opportunities
• Monitor client intake processes and manage day-to-day personnel issues
• Collaborate with leadership to shape HCRP direction and strengthen community partnerships

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• License to practice law in New York
• Demonstrated experience in foreclosure defense litigation
• Passion for social justice and commitment to working with low-income communities and communities of color
• Excellent writing, communication, and oral presentation skills
• Proficiency in MS Office suite and basic law office software

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in bankruptcy, consumer justice, fair housing, civil rights, estates matters, or economic justice
• Demonstrated experience in a leadership, mentorship, or supervisory role
