Deputy City Solicitor or Senior Attorney

Responsibilities

• Defend the City of Philadelphia and its employees in premises liability, motor vehicle, and property damage claims
• Manage a caseload of approximately 75-85 Major Jury cases
• Conduct intensive discovery, investigation, and depositions
• Draft pleadings, court memoranda, discovery, and dispositive motions
• Represent the City at trial, arbitration, or ADR
• Advise City officials and agencies on legal matters
• Negotiate settlements and supervise legal assistants

Requirements

• Law degree from an ABA accredited law school
• Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience for Deputy City Solicitor
• Minimum 9 years of relevant legal experience for Senior Attorney
• Membership in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligibility for admission by reciprocity
• Ability to work onsite 5 days per week in Philadelphia
• Must become a Philadelphia resident within six months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in tort litigation and managing complex fact patterns
• Strong analytical, negotiating, and trial skills
• Ability to communicate complex legal rules to the public and government officials
