Deputy Bureau Chief - Technical Investigations Bureau

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bureau Chief in managing day-to-day operations, including casework, training, and personnel duties
• Manage project management and policy development for the Digital Forensics Laboratory, Video Unit, and Body Worn Camera Unit
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda of law regarding electronic evidence policies
• Provide research and drafting assistance to ADAs on electronic evidence search warrants and subpoenas
• Appear in court to assist with search warrant applications and educate judges on electronic evidence issues
• Lead investigations and manage detective investigators on cases involving significant digital evidence
• Interface with the Information Technology Bureau on technology projects such as Digital Evidence Management Systems
• Teach specialized CLEs and training on electronic evidence issues

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree
• US citizenship and New York State residency
• 10+ years of legal experience
• 5+ years of experience handling digital evidence
• Prior managerial and supervisory experience
• Active and Good Standing in the New York State Bar
• Experience drafting search warrants for electronic evidence (social media, electronic storage, etc.)
• Excellent writing, communication, and people skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with ISO 17025:2017 accreditation protocols or quality management systems
