About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative, financial, and operational leadership to the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Manage departmental budgets, including operating budgets, graduate student funding, teaching assistant budgets, endowments, and research grants
  • Lead and motivate administrative staff, including hiring, performance management, and professional development
  • Plan and manage departmental facilities, equipment, space, and information technology resources
  • Advise the Department Chair on University policies, administrative issues, and strategic planning
  • Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures to support research, teaching, and outreach

Requirements

  • University degree in Commerce, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five years of administrative management experience, preferably in a complex university environment
  • Proven expertise in budget planning, forecasting, and management
  • Experience administering complex financial and human resources policies and collective agreements
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, and experience with financial planning tools
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in team building and managing change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with University Administrative Management Systems (AMS) such as FIS, HRIS, RIS, DIS, or ROSI
  • Knowledge of space and facilities management
  • Experience in purchasing and contract negotiation
  • Background in providing research support through analysis and risk assessment
