About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative, financial, and operational leadership to the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Manage departmental budgets, including operating budgets, graduate student funding, teaching assistant budgets, endowments, and research grants
- Lead and motivate administrative staff, including hiring, performance management, and professional development
- Plan and manage departmental facilities, equipment, space, and information technology resources
- Advise the Department Chair on University policies, administrative issues, and strategic planning
- Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures to support research, teaching, and outreach
Requirements
- University degree in Commerce, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years of administrative management experience, preferably in a complex university environment
- Proven expertise in budget planning, forecasting, and management
- Experience administering complex financial and human resources policies and collective agreements
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, and experience with financial planning tools
- Demonstrated leadership skills in team building and managing change
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with University Administrative Management Systems (AMS) such as FIS, HRIS, RIS, DIS, or ROSI
- Knowledge of space and facilities management
- Experience in purchasing and contract negotiation
- Background in providing research support through analysis and risk assessment
