Department Head - Biology

Responsibilities

• Provide vision and leadership to the Department of Biology to support academic excellence and student success.
• Teach at least two courses each semester and supervise teaching effectiveness.
• Administer student advisement, retention efforts, and class schedule planning.
• Pursue an independent scholarly research program and publish in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
• Develop successful grant proposals to secure external funding for research programs.
• Assist in curriculum development and ensure faculty compliance with department policies.
• Mentor new faculty and foster a positive, professional growth environment.
• Manage departmental budgets and resources in accordance with university financial policies.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with alumni, corporate sponsors, and professional organizations.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Minimum of 5 years of college teaching experience in a related field.
• Proven scholarly publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated experience in securing external grant funding.
• Significant experience in higher education administrative leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualifications necessary to hold a tenured position at the associate or full professor level.
• Experience with integrated practice and/or collaborative learning models.
• Strong track record of successful administrative leadership in a comparable academic role.
