About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the professional staff of the McKeen Center for the Common Good
  • Manage day-to-day office operations and serve as the primary point of contact in a high-traffic, student-centered space
  • Oversee departmental budget, finances, and payroll approval for approximately 50 student employees
  • Coordinate departmental events, including the annual Bowdoin and the Common Good symposium
  • Maintain and develop the departmental website, social media presence, and databases
  • Develop office publications and assist with general public relations efforts
  • Act as a liaison between department members, other Bowdoin offices, and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent typing skills with strong attention to detail, grammar, and spelling
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior administrative experience in a higher education or non-profit setting
  • Experience with web platforms and content management systems (CMS)
  • Experience supporting or participating in community engagement initiatives
  • Experience working directly with students in a professional capacity
