About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage the Institute's financial portfolio, including grants, contracts, endowments, and gifts, while overseeing pre- and post-award activities.
- Direct financial forecasting, planning, and accounting practices for all modules, programs, and research cores.
- Provide administrative oversight for grant activity and research compliance, serving as a key member of the grant writing and administration team.
- Lead human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations for faculty and staff.
- Oversee facilities and space management across multiple locations, including equipment inventory and capital planning.
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of the Institute's short- and long-term strategic plans.
- Advise the Institute Director and Executive Leadership Team on fiscal matters and administrative policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or a similar field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive managerial experience, preferably within an academic health center.
- Strong understanding of managerial accounting and finance principles.
- Proven experience in research grant management within a clinical, research, or academic setting.
- Demonstrated personnel management skills and experience overseeing department operations and human resources.
- Proficiency in managing complex information and computer systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- 10 years of progressive managerial experience in an academic health center.
- Experience working within higher education or specifically at Columbia University/CUIMC.
- Familiarity with University systems and applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations of faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
