Dental Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide dental assistance and instruction to students, faculty, and patients during examinations, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
• Assist with surgery and dental emergencies, including monitoring patient comfort.
• Take, develop, and provide instruction regarding X-rays.
• Maintain and monitor the cleanliness and sterilization of dental equipment and instruments in accordance with OSHA requirements.
• Manage clinical paperwork, including creating endodontic packets and processing patient insurance forms.
• Facilitate patient billing, collect payments, and maintain the patient recall system.
• Order and stock supplies, monitor budgets, and coordinate the repair of dental equipment.
• Support Sophomore Lab courses by setting up equipment and coordinating lab schedules.
• Provide orientation to new dental students within the endodontic department.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• One year of dental assistant experience.
• Proficiency in 4-handed dentistry, X-ray technology, and sterilization procedures.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy.
• Health-Care Provider CPR certification.
• Ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing, and walking.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in an academic setting.
• Knowledge of Marquette University School of Dentistry policies and procedures.
