About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist deck crew in tow building including laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping, and shoveling barges
- Perform daily vessel housekeeping such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning crew living quarters
- Assist with locking and carrying rigging, pumps, hoses, and lines
- Work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions
- Check barges for water and leaks, including entering confined spaces
- Maintain vessel appearance through washing, chipping, and painting
- Assist the Engineer as requested
- Practice safe crew, vessel, and tow operations using company safety systems
- Participate in safety drills and audits
Requirements
- Previous towboat experience is required
- Ability to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
- Ability to work in confined spaces and climb ladders
- Ability to work away from home for extended periods
- Must be able to read and write English per USCG regulations
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and physical
