Database Reliability Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build and operate reliable database platforms using monitoring, alerting, and continuous improvement
• Automate repetitive work including provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, and compliance
• Provide database administration support for Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB
• Support database management system design, architecture, and migration activities involving cloud services and containerization
• Create and maintain non-production database environments for development and QA
• Tune queries, review data models, and improve application performance and cybersecurity posture
• Build dashboards, alerts, and runbooks from logs and metrics
• Support enterprise COTS application implementation and configuration

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS, or equivalent experience
• Experience leveraging automation and orchestration to secure database services in production
• Demonstrated ability to implement Database Reliability Engineering practices
• Experience administering application servers such as WebLogic and Tomcat
• Experience administering Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or MySQL
• Proficiency in SQL, Oracle Forms/Reports, PL/SQL, Java, or Python
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux operating system administration
• Experience with observability tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager, Datadog, Grafana, or Icinga
• Ability to work on-premises and outside normal business hours for patching and upgrades

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ansible, SCCM, Python, and Unix/PowerShell scripting
• Experience with containerization for database and mid-tier services
