Data Scientist, Safety Systems

Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to understand and measure the real-world safety impacts of current and upcoming products
• Develop and implement statistical methods to operationalize safety-related metrics
• Uncover new ways to improve approaches to measuring and mitigating harm and abuse
• Establish a data-driven culture by defining, tracking, and operationalizing feature, product, and company-level metrics
• Create dashboards, reports, and tools that enable the company to answer safety-related questions independently
• Develop a safety data flywheel to provide research teams with production insights for training and evaluation

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a quantitative role navigating highly ambiguous environments
• Proven leadership skills, including experience leading cross-functional teams or multiple data scientists
• Expertise in defining and implementing metrics from scratch
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface with product managers, engineers, and executives
• Strategic insight that extends beyond traditional statistical significance testing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in trust and safety, integrity, anti-abuse, or related fields
• Demonstrated prior experience in NLP, large language models, or generative AI
• Strong statistical background, including knowledge of sampling, regression, and causal analysis
