Data Scientist, Preparedness

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and improve mitigation systems, including classifiers and detection pipelines across domains like biosecurity and cybersecurity.
• Diagnose false positives and false negatives through deep error analysis and root cause investigation.
• Build monitoring and measurement frameworks to track mitigation effectiveness over time across various user segments.
• Identify trends in over-blocking versus under-blocking and propose prioritized interventions to reduce customer impact.
• Develop insights from customer feedback and usage patterns to detect shifts in adversarial behavior.
• Expand risk monitoring into new areas, such as cybersecurity threats and model loss-of-control scenarios.
• Communicate technical results and decision-ready metrics to executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• Significant experience in data science or applied analytics in high-stakes domains (e.g., security, trust & safety, fraud, or platform integrity).
• Strong foundations in experimentation, causal thinking, and observational inference.
• Fluency in SQL and Python for analysis, modeling, and building monitoring workflows.
• Experience building metrics, dashboards, and operational monitoring that drive meaningful outcomes.
• Experience with classifier evaluation, calibration, thresholding, and error analysis at scale.
• Track record of driving cross-functional impact with engineering, product, and research partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Cybersecurity data science experience, including exposure to threat modeling or adversarial dynamics.
• Experience with detection systems in adversarial settings, such as evasion or distribution shift.
• Background in Trust & Safety.
• Genuine interest in AI safety, alignment, and catastrophic risk prevention.
