Data Protection Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Act as the L2 escalation point for data protection incidents, problems, and service requests
• Design, implement, and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Commvault and Metallic
• Perform root cause analysis and drive permanent fixes for complex backup failures and performance issues
• Manage backup policies, schedules, retention, replication, and disaster recovery readiness
• Support backup operations across physical, virtual, and cloud workloads
• Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for critical incidents and upgrades
• Provide guidance and mentoring to L1/L2 teams and review operational procedures
• Participate in on-call rotations and handle P1/P2 incidents as required
• Perform or coordinate basic HP Storage hardware replacement activities, including disks, controllers, and power supplies

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery
• Experience with Metallic Backup solutions
• Proficiency with Windows and Linux servers
• Experience managing VMware and Hyper-V environments
• Knowledge of database backups including SQL, Oracle, SAP, and Exchange
• Experience with cloud backup solutions in Azure or AWS
• Understanding of storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and object storage
• Solid grasp of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, firewalls, and ports
• Basic HP Storage hardware knowledge for L1-level support tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to advanced cloud workload integration within Azure and AWS
• Knowledge of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change management
• Experience in vendor management and technical documentation
