About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead all data management activities for the Harbor Survey and other ambient water quality monitoring programs
- Oversee collection of field and laboratory data and ensure rigorous QA/QC of datasets
- Maintain and enhance database systems used for long term data storage
- Manage data dissemination to internal and external stakeholders including BWT, DEP bureaus, and the public
- Implement improvements to field operations, including instrumentation updates and reviewing scientific literature
- Prepare technical papers and reports for internal and external publication
- Coordinate marine science and ambient water quality research with external agencies and institutions
- Supervise staff across field, laboratory, and office settings, including Water Ecology Scientists and interns
- Conduct performance evaluations and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures
- Serve as acting Section Chief during periods of unavailability
Requirements
- Master's degree in physical, biological, environmental science, or public health (for Assignment Level I)
- For Level II and above: Doctorate with one year of supervisory/research experience, OR a Master's with three years of research experience
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience for higher assignment levels
