Data Governance Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain data governance platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview.
• Engineer automated data quality rules, monitoring, and alerting using tools like Soda or Great Expectations.
• Build and automate metadata capture and end-to-end data lineage across data sources and pipelines.
• Implement data classification, tagging, and role-based access controls within governance tooling.
• Embed governance controls directly into data pipelines, data lakes, and ETL/ELT workflows.
• Develop scripts and automation to operationalize governance policies and reduce manual effort.
• Monitor data quality KPIs and platform health, producing dashboards for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and engineering teams to drive adoption of governance standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 4-6 years of experience in data engineering, data management, or data governance engineering.
• Hands-on experience configuring data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview).
• Strong SQL and scripting skills (Python or similar) for data profiling and automation.
• Proven experience with data quality engineering and automated monitoring tools.
• Solid understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data governance principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., DAMA CDMP or platform-specific credentials).
• Experience embedding governance controls into CI/CD or automated data pipelines.
