About the role

About the Company

Abtrace is solving one of the most complex, impactful problems in healthcare for a generation. Supporting over 500 primary care practices across the UK, we automate routine care to improve health outcomes and reduce operational burden for the NHS.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Python on AWS
  • Own and evolve the data warehouse architecture toward a centralized lakehouse
  • Streamline testing, releases, and the experience of adding or changing models
  • Implement transformation tooling using dbt
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and data quality checks across critical pipelines
  • Partner with analytics, engineering, and product teams to improve developer experience
  • Contribute to data security and compliance (ISO 27001, GDPR)

Requirements

  • Solid experience as a data engineer or backend engineer
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for large or distributed datasets
  • Experience designing and operating production data pipelines
  • Experience with cloud data platforms, ideally AWS
  • Familiarity with dbt and orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Step Functions
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK)
  • Ability to make architectural decisions in a small team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries
  • Experience with data governance at scale (masking, access control)
  • Experience as an early data engineer at a startup
  • Background in data quality, observability, or platform engineering
