Data Center Engineer

Responsibilities

• Remotely manage data center infrastructure including power, cooling, hardware, and cabling to ensure maximum service availability
• Perform requirements gathering and planning for new hardware installations, including physical location and power/cooling needs
• Oversee Datacenter Managed Services providers and manage onsite technicians
• Develop and maintain data center standards, documentation, and inventory for serialized assets
• Interface directly with colocation providers and hardware vendors regarding requests and issues
• Perform capacity planning for space, cooling, power, and cabling plant
• Conduct hardware troubleshooting, break-fix, and equipment shipping/receiving
• Evaluate industry trends to recommend improvements for data center and hardware environments

Requirements

• At least two years of onsite Data Center experience
• Strong understanding of data center infrastructure (electrical, power, cooling, and mechanicals)
• Knowledge of cabling standards, media types, and installation best practices
• Hands-on hardware repair experience with servers, network devices, and storage devices
• Ability to understand basic network designs and topologies
• Proficiency with the Linux command line for system troubleshooting and running scripts
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high personal standards for work quality
