Data Center Engineer

About the Company

Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence. We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency across both prefill and decode workloads. Our first products are heavily focused on inference.

Responsibilities

• Own rack layout, capacity planning, power distribution, network design, cabling, and physical deployment of high performance computing platforms
• Design and manage power distribution and redundancy architectures for high-density AI compute deployments
• Collaborate with facilities teams and external vendors to manage hardware labs for bring-up and customer demos
• Partner with co-location vendors to evaluate sites, negotiate contracts, and enforce SLAs
• Architect and implement high-speed networking infrastructure (100G/200G/400G Ethernet)
• Develop and maintain asset management systems, rack diagrams, and change control processes
• Build and operate monitoring and alerting for environmental health
• Define and execute preventive maintenance schedules and hardware lifecycle processes
• Lead capacity planning cycles in coordination with the hardware roadmap
• Establish and enforce physical security procedures and access control policies

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on data center engineering or operations experience
• Experience designing and deploying high-density compute environments (20 kW/rack and above)
• Proficiency with structured cabling, fiber, and copper plant management
• Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams and facility documentation
• Experience building or operating monitoring and DCIM tooling
• Strong vendor management skills including RFP and competitive evaluation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with physical deployment of custom or semi-custom server platforms
• Knowledge of liquid cooling systems (direct liquid cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, or immersion cooling)
• Experience with AI or HPC cluster environments (GPU/ASIC clusters, RDMA networking)
• Scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, Ansible)
• Experience working within a semiconductor or hardware startup
