About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead data discovery and requirements-gathering sessions with departments and technical teams
- Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise integrations and APIs
- Define reusable data architecture patterns, naming conventions, and reference data standards
- Develop data contracts, schema standards, and validation rules
- Establish systematic data quality checks for accuracy, consistency, and integrity
- Work with data engineers to implement automated validation workflows using SQL, Python, or DBT
- Identify and document data quality issues and root causes
- Support metadata management, data lineage, and governance documentation
- Partner with security, privacy, and legal teams to ensure appropriate data handling
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or data quality assurance
- Proven experience designing data models and documenting data definitions
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases (Postgres/PostGIS preferred)
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data lineage
- Familiarity with API design, JSON schemas, or OpenAPI specifications
- Experience with Python, DBT, or automated QA frameworks
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow
- Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD practices

- Experience working with spatial datasets or municipal data
- Experience in public-sector or large enterprise environments
