Data Analyst

SafeLease is a profitable insurance business that designs, underwrites, and distributes specialty coverage for commercial property owners and their tenants. We back our policies with our own capital, controlling the full stack from product design to technology.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain dbt models to transform raw data into analytics-ready tables in Snowflake
• Establish naming conventions, testing standards, and documentation practices
• Own the semantic layer to ensure consistent metric definitions
• Build and maintain executive and department-level dashboards
• Conduct deep-dive analyses to explain anomalies and uncover data signals
• Instrument data quality checks and alerting to ensure data trustworthiness
• Partner with engineering to ensure upstream source data is usable

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in analytics engineering or data analysis
• Strong SQL skills including query optimization
• Hands-on experience with dbt (Core or Cloud)
• Proficiency with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse
• Experience building dashboards in Metabase, Looker, Mode, Tableau, or similar
• Ability to translate vague business questions into structured analysis
• Strong written communication skills for documentation and stakeholder reporting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in insurance, fintech, or real estate data environments
• Familiarity with property, underwriting, or policy/claims datasets
• Python for data analysis (pandas, notebooks, scripting)
• Knowledge of data modeling patterns like star schema or slowly changing dimensions
• Experience in a startup or early-stage data team environment
