About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop age-appropriate dance curriculum, lesson plans, and special projects that fuse the arts with academic competencies.
- Facilitate project-based learning units and after-school activities for K-12 students.
- Work with program participants to develop their artistic, educational, and leadership potential.
- Engage youth in critical thinking, risk-taking, and community-building through dance.
- Coordinate subject-related trips, guest speakers, special events, and student exhibitions.
- Communicate student progress and insights to team members on a regular basis.
- Act as a positive role model for all students.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (degree preferred).
- 1+ years of teaching experience.
- Ability to create lesson plans and implement project-based learning.
- Strong planning, organization, and communication skills.
- Commitment to youth development and the mission of Harlem Children's Zone.
- Flexibility and enthusiasm for working with diverse groups of young people.
Preferred Qualifications
- Conservatory training or university-level education in dance.
- Practical experience in specialty areas such as Tap, Cultural/World Dance, or Hip-Hop/Urban styles.
- Experience teaching social consciousness, self-identity, and efficacy through the arts.
