Cutter/Draper

Responsibilities

• Manage the construction of all costuming elements in consultation with the Costume Shop Manager
• Pattern, drape, and construct costumes based on renderings, sketches, and verbal instructions
• Supervise student workers in costume construction and the management of fabric and storage facilities
• Maintain safe operation and regular upkeep of all tools and machinery in the Helfaer Theatre costume shop
• Ensure an accident-free environment by enforcing safety rules and supervising student tool usage
• Oversee daily shop operations, including tool inventory check-in/out and end-of-session cleanup
• Assist with costume rentals for outside professional theatre companies, high schools, and colleges

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Theatre with an emphasis in Technical Theatre
• At least two years of practical work experience in theatre costume preparation and construction
• Proven supervisory skills
• Proficiency in sewing machine operation and basic sewing, patterning, and draping
• Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Visual acuity and the ability to lift/transport materials weighing up to 40 lbs
• Ability to perform prolonged standing, frequent bending, or stooping
