Custodial Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Oversee housekeeping functions for a multi-unit residence hall facility and common areas.
• Supervise a team of 16-20 full-time career housekeepers and up to 10 seasonal staff.
• Provide on-the-job training regarding the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with published safety standards and university policies.
• Conduct on-site quality control inspections to ensure maintenance standards meet customer expectations.
• Manage personnel matters including training, performance evaluations, and employee relations.
• Monitor inventory usage and assist in projecting budget costs for supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• 3-4 years of custodial experience in a large institution.
• Proven skill in managing personnel, including training, appraisal, and corrective action.
• Ability to conduct physical inspections involving walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting for long periods.
• Working knowledge of safety rules and the handling of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
• Ability to read and write concise, logical English for reports, schedules, and evaluations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California noncommercial Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience leading or overseeing teams.
• Experience working within a higher education environment.
• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of University policies, payroll procedures, and AFSCME agreements.
• Knowledge of portable fire fighting equipment and maintenance.
